TIME TOGETHER, ABOVE OJAI

More room for the family. Less on the schedule.

Breakfast that lasts a little longer. A walk with time to notice things. Everyone back around the table at the end of the day.

The Ridge is a whole-house, four-bedroom villa above Ojai, with vineyard and Pacific views, space for meals together and room for up to ten guests. Explore outside, spend an afternoon in town, then come back to the same table.

THE HOUSE

A house to share—not a day to organize

Four bedrooms and generous common spaces make it possible to gather the family without spending every hour together. Some can read inside while others prepare lunch. Start a game at the table, take a short walk, or head into Ojai for a little exploring.

The whole villa is yours for the stay. There are no scheduled children’s activities or staffed kids’ facilities—just room to enjoy being a family at your own pace.

SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS

Work out the sleeping arrangements together

The bedrooms contain two king beds, one queen and two twins. A queen sofa bed in the living room brings total capacity to ten.

The Courtyard Queen Bedroom is on the first floor. The Loft Bedroom and Ocean Twin Room are upstairs and share the upstairs shower bathroom and separate water closet. The primary suite has its own bathroom.

Think about who will be comfortable upstairs, who needs to be close to a child, and whether a sofa bed in a shared living area works for your group.

A little less to pack

The house provides one crib, a high chair, a baby bath, children’s dishware and toys—plus a washer and dryer for the practical side of a longer stay.

If a particular item is essential for your child, contact us before booking to check its suitability. Bring your own favorite books, games, comfort items and any specialist equipment you rely on.

A mountain house: please consider the setting

Children are welcome, and we want families to make an informed choice before booking. The Ridge is a two-story home in a rural mountain setting—not a fully childproofed resort.

  • There are no safety gates on the stairs.
  • The outdoor hot tub has no gate or lock.
  • The property has private gates but is not fully fenced.
  • Patios, uneven ground and mountain slopes require close supervision.
  • Wildlife is part of the landscape; do not leave food outdoors.
  • Open flames and fireworks are not permitted. There is no fire pit.

IDEAS FOR THE DAY

The best plans can be simple

No packed itinerary needed. A few ways families like to spend a day on the mountain.

Dining table and living area at The Ridge

Make breakfast the occasion

Use the kitchen for everyone’s morning favorites, then take your time over a shared meal. The outdoor dining table seats twelve. Pick up groceries before coming up the mountain, or book a private chef for one evening off from cooking.

Private Chefs & Catering

Head outside, together

The private half-mile loop around the house offers a short walk without planning a long excursion. Take suitable shoes, stay on the designated route and supervise children closely. Bring your own bikes if you plan to ride farther on Sulphur Mountain—it is mountain riding, not a children’s cycling circuit.

Hiking & Walking

Outdoor bookshelves at Bart’s Books in Ojai

Leave room for an afternoon in Ojai

Browse at Bart’s Books, choose somewhere for lunch, or explore a local market when it is open. Downtown Ojai is approximately 35 minutes from the villa by mountain road, so plan an outing you can enjoy without rushing back and forth. For Rose Valley, check access first—a shorter trail or lakeside stop may suit children better than a full hiking day.

Bring the game everyone actually wants to play

A favorite board game, a sketchbook, a stack of books or a simple dinner everyone helps prepare can be enough. Toys are provided, but bring the family favorites. There is no need to make every hour an activity.

BEFORE YOU ARRIVE

Arrive with the first evening in mind

The final approach follows a narrow, winding mountain road, mostly paved with a short unpaved stretch. Aim to arrive in daylight, especially on your first visit.

Download the directions while you have reliable reception. Bring groceries, snacks and any essentials your children need: there are no shops on the mountain. Allow enough time to settle in without making the first evening another project.

Standard check-in is from 4:00 PM, and check-out is by 11:00 AM. Ask in advance if different timing would help; availability must be confirmed.

Getting Here

GOOD TO KNOW

Questions families often ask

Do you provide bikes?

No. There are no bikes at the house. If you plan to ride, arrange your own equipment and assess the routes carefully for your family.

Is there a crib for more than one baby?

One crib is confirmed. Contact us before booking if you need another sleeping arrangement; do not assume a second cot is available.

Can grandparents join us?

The villa sleeps up to ten guests and has a first-floor queen bedroom with a full bathroom next door. The house, patios and surrounding terrain may not suit every mobility need. Ask about the layout before booking; a first-floor room does not mean the property is step-free or accessible.

Are games and activities included?

Toys are provided, but bring your favorite family games and books. There is no staffed activity program, childcare service or guided hiking included in the stay.

Can we invite other family members for the day?

Discuss any visitors with us before making plans. Your accommodation booking does not automatically authorize extra guests or an event.

Can we book a vineyard tasting during our stay?

Yes, as a separate reservation. Ask the vineyard about your full group and any arrangements for children before booking; do not assume childcare or a children’s tasting activity is available.

A few days everyone can make their own

You do not need a packed itinerary to bring home good memories. Sometimes it is the breakfast, the walk, or the evening everyone stayed at the table a little longer.
